Edit and Contribute to Voices in the Dust
Voices in the Dust has been created using Mediawiki so that the archive can be edited and maintained by Southeast Newport News and Lambert's Point community members.
Following the completion of the "pre-release version," the Repair Lab and African American Historical Society of Newport News will host a series of community archiving and training workshops such that Voices in the Dust becomes a living archive with a local user base. After Voices in the Dust evolves through this series of workshops, the archive will be the "public-release version," which will open wide to community editing.
At this time, there are three ways to add content, feedback, or engage in discussion on Voices in the Dust.
- The Front Porch: Have a question? Want to start a conversation or share an observation? Join the discussion on any page at the Front Porch.
- Google Form: Do you have photographs or stories to add to any page? You can submit this information and insight: Add Your Voice
- Contact the Repair Lab: You can email the Repair Lab at editor@voicesinthedust.org or call, text, or send a voice memo to (757) 317-0356. If you prefer, a Repair Lab team member can record your story in person or collect physical materials to digitize and then return them to you.
Are you be interested in joining a community training workshop to edit/add to the archive directly? Send an email to the Repair Lab at editor@voicesinthedust.org. There is no cost to participate.
